Grosor de la Íntima Media de la Carótida en la Retinopatía Diabética: Población de India

Abstract

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es evaluar la asociación entre el grosor de la capa íntima media de la caró- tida con la gravedad de la retinopatía diabética en una población asiática de India. Diseño: Se seleccionaron 144 pacientes con diabetes mellitus de tipo 2 (96 varones y 48 mujeres) del departa- mento de pacientes externos de oftalmología y endocrinología de un hospital de nivel terciario. Se dividió a los pa- cientes en 3 grupos, en retinopatía diabética de fondo (grupo A n=69 {47.91%}), retinopatía diabética pre-proliferativa (grupo B, n=32 {22.22%}) y retinopatía diabética proliferativa (grupo C, n=43 {29.86%}), con edades comprendidas entre los 35 y los 75 años (media de 51±4.4 en el grupo A, 50.9±8.4 en el grupo B y 59.7±9.1 en el grupo C). El rango de duración de la diabetes era de 5 a 19 años. Se evaluó el grosor medio de la íntima media de la carótida común (IMT) mediante ecografía en modo B de alta resolución. Resultados: Los pacientes de los grupos A, B y C presentaron valores diferentes de IMT, de 0.0.59±0.15, 0.65±0.14 y 0.72±0.12 respectivamente, y estas diferencias resultaron ser estadísticamente significativas. Conclusión: Exis íntima media de la carótida y la gravedad de la retinopatía diabética.
